STORY RECAP
What happened in Season 1?
Dexter Morgan survived being shot and woke from a ten-week coma, during which he saw visions of people from his past urging him to keep living. After learning that his son Harrison was responsible for the murder of Ryan Foster, a sexual predator, Dexter escaped the hospital and traveled to New York City to find him. Upon arrival, Dexter investigated the crime scene and cleaned up evidence that Harrison had missed, while also starting to rebuild his life in the city.
As Dexter settled into his new life, he met and befriended a UrCar rideshare driver named Blessing Kamara and began working as a driver himself. He also discovered that a serial killer, known as the Dark Passenger, was targeting rideshare drivers, and identified the killer as Ronald "Red" Schmidt. However, instead of killing Red, Dexter chose to save the life of Red's next victim, showing a change in his behavior.
Dexter eventually killed Red and took his place at a dinner party for serial killers, where he met Leon Prater, a billionaire venture capitalist who secretly ran the society. Dexter joined the group and bonded with Mia LaPierre, but later had her arrested and framed for Harrison's crime when he discovered she didn't have a code. Meanwhile, Angel Batista arrived in New York, determined to find Dexter and protect Harrison, who was struggling with guilt over Foster's murder.
As the season progressed, Dexter and Harrison grew closer, and Dexter began to open up to his son about his past. However, their relationship was put to the test when Prater discovered Harrison's existence and began to question Dexter about him. Dexter tried to evade Prater's questions, but eventually found himself trapped in Prater's vault, where he was forced to confront his past and make a choice between killing Angel or being locked away.
In the end, Dexter was able to escape the vault with Harrison's help, and he killed Prater in the process. With Prater's death, Dexter was able to reclaim his freedom and continue his hunt for serial killers, using the files and resources he had obtained from Prater. The season ended with Dexter dumping Prater's body in New York Harbor and setting sail on his yacht, ready to start his next chapter.
