Dune: Part Two

Dune, released in 2021, sets the stage for the story. Duke Leto Atreides is assigned to replace Baron Vladimir Harkonnen as the fiefholder of Arrakis, but Emperor Shaddam IV plots to destroy House Atreides and retake Arrakis. Paul, Leto's son, passes a gom jabbar test and begins having troubling visions of the future. As the story unfolds, House Atreides arrives on Arrakis, and Paul is revered by the Fremen. However, an attempt to assassinate Paul fails, and Baron Harkonnen's aide, Dr. Wellington Yueh, betrays the Atreides, disabling Arrakeen's shields. This leads to a series of tragic events, including Yueh's death at the hands of the Baron, and Leto's ultimate sacrifice, killing himself and the Baron's Mentat using a poison gas capsule. Paul and his mother, Jessica, are left in the desert with survival supplies and eventually encounter the Fremen. Along the way, Duncan Idaho sacrifices himself to enable their escape, and Dr. Liet Kynes is mortally wounded. Paul accepts a duel to the death and wins, then joins the Fremen to fulfill his father's goal, having visions of a bloody holy war fought across the universe in his name.
