The Matrix Reloaded

In The Matrix, computer programmer Thomas Anderson, known online as Neo, is searching for the meaning of a mysterious term: the Matrix. Trinity brings him to Morpheus, who offers him a choice between the familiar world and the truth. Neo takes the red pill and awakens to discover that the world he knew is a computer-generated simulation. Intelligent machines have enslaved much of humanity, while the surviving human resistance operates from the underground city of Zion. Morpheus believes Neo is the One, a figure prophesied to change the war against the machines. Aboard Morpheus's ship, the Nebuchadnezzar, Neo trains to manipulate the rules of the simulation. The crew consults the Oracle, who challenges Neo's belief in his destiny and warns him of a choice involving Morpheus. Their companion Cypher secretly betrays them to the Agents, programs that police the Matrix, in exchange for the chance to return to an unknowing life within it. The ambush leaves several crew members dead and Morpheus captured. Agent Smith interrogates him for access codes that would expose Zion to the machines. Rather than let Morpheus be sacrificed, Neo and Trinity reenter the Matrix and rescue him. Neo confronts Smith, who later shoots and seemingly kills him. Trinity declares her love for Neo, and he revives with the ability to see the Matrix's underlying code, stop bullets and destroy Smith's program. He escapes just as the Nebuchadnezzar uses an electromagnetic pulse to disable attacking machines. The film ends with Neo promising to reveal new possibilities to those living inside the Matrix, while the war against the machines continues.
