In the movie Avatar, the story begins in 2154 with Earth facing resource exhaustion and ecological collapse, prompting the RDA to mine unobtanium on Pandora. Jake Sully, a paraplegic veteran, is recruited as an operator after his identical twin's death and is sent to Pandora. He is attacked by wild animals and rescued by Neytiri, who takes him to her clan, the Omaticaya. As Jake falls in love with Neytiri and is initiated into the clan, he is later discovered to be a spy for the RDA, leading to Hometree's destruction and the death of many Na'vi, including Eytukan. Jake regains the trust of the Na'vi by connecting with the Toruk and unites the Omaticaya to fight the RDA, ultimately defeating them and expelling them from Pandora. With the help of the Tree of Souls, Neytiri, and Mo'at, Jake is permanently transferred into his avatar. Following the events of the first movie, Avatar: The Way of Water takes place with Jake Sully as the chief of the Omatikaya clan, married to Neytiri, and having four children: Neteyam, Lo'ak, Tuktirey, and Kiri. The RDA returns to Pandora, led by a recombinant Quaritch, who searches for Jake's headquarters and captures his children, but Jake and Neytiri manage to free them. Jake's family then relocates to the Metkayina clan's territory by the eastern sea, where Lo'ak befriends Tsireya and bonds with Payakan, a Tulkun. As Quaritch tracks down Jake's scientist friends and burns the Metkayina's dwellings, a battle ensues between the Metkayina and Quaritch's forces, resulting in the death of Neteyam. Ultimately, Jake strangles Quaritch unconscious, and Jake is rescued from the sinking ship by Lo'ak and Payakan. The movie ends with Neteyam's funeral, and Jake deciding to leave the Metkayina clan, but Tonowari declares Jake's family part of the clan and welcomes them to stay.
