In Licence to Kill, DEA agents, with the help of James Bond and Felix Leiter, capture drug lord Franz Sanchez. However, Sanchez escapes and kills Felix's wife Della, prompting Bond to begin his own investigation. As Bond delves deeper into Sanchez's operation, he discovers a marine research centre run by Milton Krest and kills him, framing him for Sanchez's $5 million theft. Bond then gains Sanchez's trust, learning about his cocaine smuggling operation. With the help of Pam Bouvier, Bond starts a fire at Sanchez's base, killing his henchmen, and ultimately kills Sanchez by setting him on fire. After destroying Sanchez's tankers and killing several of his men, Bond is offered his job back by M but rejects it to be with Pam Bouvier. The movie ends with Felix Leiter being rescued and informed that M has congratulated Bond on his work. Bond's rejection of his job offer leaves him at a crossroads, having chosen a personal life with Pam over his duties as a spy.
