A View to a Kill begins with James Bond being sent to Siberia to recover a Soviet microchip. Upon analysis by Q, the microchip is found to be a copy of one designed to withstand an electromagnetic pulse, made by Zorin Industries. Bond discovers that Zorin's plan is to destroy Silicon Valley to gain a monopoly over microchip manufacture. It is revealed that Zorin was initially trained and financed by the KGB but has now gone rogue, and that he was one of the babies born from pregnant women who were administered steroids in a medical experiment. As Bond delves deeper, he learns of Zorin's plot to detonate explosives beneath the lakes along the Hayward and San Andreas faults. Bond fights to stop Zorin, and in the ensuing battle, Zorin falls to his death. Mortner also meets his end when the airship explodes. Ultimately, Bond foils Zorin's scheme and is awarded the Order of Lenin by General Gogol.
