In Quantum of Solace, James Bond captures Mr. White, but White escapes after Bond kills M's bodyguard Craig Mitchell. Bond then discovers that Mitchell had a contact named Edmund Slate in Haiti, who was sent to kill Camille Montes. As Bond delves deeper, he learns that Camille's family was murdered by exiled Bolivian General Medrano, and that Dominic Greene is helping Medrano to overthrow the government. Bond infiltrates Quantum's meeting and identifies its executive board members, later killing a Special Branch bodyguard working for Quantum. Bond's investigation takes him to Bolivia, where he teams up with his old ally René Mathis, but Mathis is killed by the Bolivian police. Bond discovers that Greene and Quantum have been secretly damming Bolivia's supply of fresh water to create a monopoly. He and Camille infiltrate the Perla de la Dunas hotel, where they thwart Greene's plan, and Camille kills Medrano, avenging her family. Bond captures Greene, interrogates him, and leaves him stranded in the desert. Ultimately, Bond finds Vesper's former lover, Yusef Kabira, a member of Quantum, and allows MI6 to arrest him. Greene is later found dead in the desert, and Bond drops Vesper's necklace behind him as he walks away in the snow.
