Die Another Day begins with James Bond infiltrating a North Korean military base to expose Colonel Tan-Sun Moon's conflict diamonds operation. However, Bond is captured and imprisoned for 14 months before being traded for Zao in a prisoner exchange. Upon his release, Bond's status as a 00 Agent is suspended due to suspicion of leaking information to the North Koreans. He escapes MI6 custody and tracks down Zao to Cuba, where he meets NSA agent Jinx Johnson. Bond discovers Zao's involvement with a gene therapy clinic and later learns that the clinic is connected to Gustav Graves, a young British billionaire with a diamond vein in Iceland. As Bond delves deeper, he uncovers that Graves is actually Colonel Moon, who has undergone gene therapy to change his appearance. Bond's MI6 status is eventually restored, and he confronts Graves, who reveals his plan to unite the Korean Peninsula using the Icarus satellite. In the end, Bond kills Zao, disables Icarus, and spends a romantic evening with Jinx at a remote Buddhist temple hut after escaping the plane with her.
