The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring begins with the Dark Lord Sauron forging the One Ring, which corrupts Isildur and ultimately leads to Sauron's demise at the hands of Orcs. The Ring is lost for 2,500 years until it is found by Bilbo Baggins, who passes it to his nephew Frodo. Gandalf learns the Ring's true nature and warns Frodo to leave the Shire, prompting Frodo and Sam to embark on a perilous journey. They meet Strider, who helps them reach Rivendell, where a council decides the Ring must be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom. Frodo volunteers to take the Ring, accompanied by the Fellowship, but their journey is fraught with danger, and Gandalf falls into a deep chasm while battling a Balrog. The Fellowship eventually reaches Lothlórien, where Galadriel warns Frodo that one of his companions will try to take the Ring, and indeed, Boromir attempts to do so, leading Frodo to decide to continue to Mordor alone with Sam. As The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers unfolds, Frodo and Sam are captured by Gollum in the Emyn Muil and decide to let him guide them into Mordor. Meanwhile, Merry and Pippin are rescued by Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli, but are separated from them in Fangorn Forest. Gandalf is revived and joins Aragorn's group, freeing Théoden from Saruman's control in Edoras. Théoden evacuates the citizens to Helm's Deep as Saruman's army approaches, and Aragorn plays a crucial role in the ensuing battle. The Ents, led by Treebeard, storm Isengard and trap Saruman in his tower, while Gandalf and Éomer arrive with the Rohirrim, turning the tide of battle at Helm's Deep. Frodo and Sam are captured by Rangers led by Faramir, but are released after Faramir is impressed by Frodo's resolve. Gollum decides to reclaim the Ring by leading Frodo and Sam to "her" upon arriving at Cirith Ungol, setting the stage for their continued journey into Mordor. With the battles at Helm's Deep and Isengard concluded, Frodo and Sam press on, facing unknown dangers as they near their destination.
