The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring begins with the Dark Lord Sauron forging the One Ring to control Middle-earth. The Ring is eventually lost, only to be found by Bilbo Baggins 2,500 years later. Bilbo passes the Ring to his nephew Frodo, and Gandalf discovers its true nature, warning Frodo to leave the Shire. Frodo and Sam join Merry and Pippin, evading the Nazgûl, and Frodo is wounded by a Morgul blade before being taken to Rivendell for healing. At Rivendell, a council decides the Ring must be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom, and Frodo volunteers to take it, accompanied by the Fellowship. However, their journey is marked by challenges, including Gandalf's fall into a deep chasm while battling a Balrog. The Fellowship reaches Lothlórien, where Galadriel warns Frodo of a potential betrayal. Boromir attempts to take the Ring, but is mortally wounded, leading Frodo to decide to go to Mordor alone. Nevertheless, Sam insists on accompanying him, while Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli plan to rescue Merry and Pippin, setting the stage for the next part of their journey.
